I’m Going to Give You a Bear Hug Review + Giveaway
My little guy loves reading! I’ve always been a voracious reader and it’s my hope that my children are the same way. If you follow me on Facebook or Twitter, you know that my 2-year-old already likes to read books on his own. And by read, I mean that he says “words words words words words” as he moves through the pages. Close enough, right?
In all seriousness, our storytimes are some of my favorite parts of the day. I really think they are some of Colton’s favorite times, too. If your children love reading, you’ll want in on this I’m Going to Give You a Bear Hug Review + Giveaway!
So Many Hugs to Share
To encourage his interest in reading, we let Colton pick out his own books to read before naps and bed. His current favorite book is I’m Going to Give You a Bear Hug by Caroline B. Cooney. I’m Going to Give You a Bear Hug uses animal comparisons to demonstrate different hugs for a child. The hugs include a bear hug, a dog hug (“knock over chairs, chase up the stairs”), a horse hug (“grab the mane, race through rain”), and several more.
The animal theme is perfect for my son, as he loves learning about different animals. As we move through the pages, he enjoys telling me what noise each animal makes. Best of all, he also likes acting out the hugs! There’s nothing I love more than a hug from my son, which is why I’m also a big fan of I’m Going to Give You a Bear Hug!
Illustrations Capture Their Attention
Tim Warnes is the book’s illustrator, and he did an amazing job. The illustrations capture Colton’s attention and hold his interest, which is a huge feat when you’re talking about a 2-year-old. Not many things hold his interest these days! I’m sure other parents can relate.
One detail I particularly enjoyed in the illustrations is that the main character brings his teddy bear along for each of his hug adventures. Colton loved finding the stuffed bear on each page and excitedly pointing the bear out to me.
I’m Going to Give You a Bear Hug is a perfect bedtime story. At the end of the book, the child receives a “just right, turn off the light, sleep tight” bear hug. Reading this story is a great way for a child to wind down before bedtime, ending with a big hug from mom and dad.
Officially, I’m Going to Give You a Bear Hug is for ages 4-8, but my 2-year-old already enjoys the story. We have the hardcover version, however, there is also a board book available for the younger readers, as well as a Kindle version.
